Intro

The final task has always been a frightening scourge for students. It’s not unusual. I’ve experienced it anyway. If it’s depicted, then the moments of starting this final task are like entering a dark tunnel. We have to choose between several intersections, whichever intersection can get us out of that tunnel. None of the beams of light appear to be clues to the certainty of the road.

The final task is generally in the form of an independent study done by students last year. It becomes a requirement to obtain a bachelor’s degree. Maybe the rules of the game in your place are different from other sites. Still, in general, the final task in computing (Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information System) can be in the form of applied research or basic research. Related to this, we discussed later.

The Essence of Final Task/ Research

Well, just starting to get to the point. So that this article is not too long. The essence of doing the final project and research is to measure a change from the actual situation to the desired condition.

You must have been hungry. Perhaps during the day, you feel your stomach churning, limp, and dispassionate. Well, up here, understand that this is the actual situation. Then you imagine foods and drinks that are appetizing to you. “It’s delicious to eat meatballs, complete with noodles, accompanied by crackers and sambal, plus drink a glass of ice tea. It’s going to rejuvenate me again this afternoon.” Well, this one is your way to achieving your goals. Your goal is one, to be full and to feel satisfied. Of course, the way to achieve it varies. Maybe your friend chose to eat Padang rice or some of the others who don’t have money to cook instant noodles only.

Then where’s the big part? Doing the final task is not just achieving your goal of filling the stomach. The more important mission is to follow the process and tell it in reports and seminars/ hearings. When it is about eating meatballs, some things are much more important than just eating, for example:

1. Inform, how much you spend compared to your friend who eats Padang rice

2. Explain the process of buying meatballs, bargaining prices, or even making ‘custom’ orders, such as not using vermicelli, or using only a few sambal, or using a lot of soy sauce.

3. Or it can also compare some things, such as if the chili is a spoonful turns out to be less spicy if three spoons are even too spicy.

In fact, the final task is a series of documented activities. An activity that aims to achieve a situation based on the current actual situation. You take several actions and actions to try to change something that’s a problem at this point. In short, you can see the illustration of the meliorist model below.

The Meliorist Model (copied from Projects in Computing and Information Systems — Christian Dawson)

The final task starts with a problem and ends in trouble solving. The weight of final quality tasks is not determined by how expertly you develop your project or how hi-tech your tools use. But as simple as it is, how ‘real’ the problem is and resolved.

Start by looking for trouble. Some people look for problems by looking at the suggestion part of previous research. Whether in an article in a journal, proceedings, or another final assignment from the library. But for me, the most convenient issue to work on is the problem that arises from our own anxiety. Why? Because we will be triggered to solve it immediately, because we are also troubled by the problem is in our lives. And, of course, such problem-solving approaches are usually easier to find.

The concept of this final task is fundamental to understand first before stepping in to determine the title or topic. The final task is not difficult, as easy as eating meatballs to fill and satisfy your stomach.
